Baguma Charged With Murder, Remanded

Former Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) commander, Aaron Baguma was on Tuesday afternoon charged and sentenced to Kigo Prison.

Baguma who has been on the run after Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani issued a warrant of arrest for him not later than 1st September 2016, turned himself in, in the company of his lawyer, Abraham Mpumwire and was charged with murder, aggravated robbery and kidnap with intent to murder.

Bugada Road Court Grade 1 magistrate, Joan Aciro, read the 3 counts to Baguma whose appearance in court shocked many.

Baguma was barred from pleading to the charges which can only be tried by the High Court.

The former CPS  police boss is charged alongside Kampala businessman Mohammad Ssebuwufu, and six others, for the alleged murder of businesswoman Donah Betty Katusabe who was tortured to death at Pine Car Bond in Kampala for failing to pay a balance of Shs9m for a car she had earlier bought.

It’s alleged that having gone to the scene of crime, Baguma found Katusabe being beaten and just asked her to pay off the debt instead of saving her from the irate mob led by Muhammed Ssebuwufu, the proprietor of Pine car bond.

It’s from that act of misconduct that the DPP says Baguma is criminally liable for neglecting his duty as a police officer.

The other suspects in the case include; Paul Tasingika, Godfrey Kayiza, Phillip Mirambe and Stephen Lwanga. they are all currently on remand at Luzira prison. Baguma returns to court on Thursday 1st September 2016 for mention of his case.
