Mr. Universe Ivan has on Tuesday flown out of the country to contest in the World Cup natural body building championship and Natural Olympia contest slated for November 7 and November 12-15 in San Diego and Las Vegas respectively.
Byekwaso who won the Mr. Universe body building championship in august, promised to repeat history by bringing back gold to Uganda.
“Like always, I would like to thank God, the UBBFA, and Pemba Sports for being there for me. My dream has always been to promote the country through bodybuilding on the international level and I think I have reached somewhere, I promise to come back with a medal,” Byekwaso said.
The 36 year old who left early for the championships for extra preparations with renowned San Diego based natural bodybuilding coach Gaspar Lorenzo ahead of the two events, was sponsored by Pemba Sports Africa.
Jackson Pemba, the chairman of the sports promotion company unleashed a sponsorship package of $20,000 (Sh73m) for an air ticket, training, accommodation and upkeep while in the US.
Byekwaso’s last showcase and the first ever at the Natural Olympia saw him win a bronze medal last year.
He will later be joined by two other Ugandan body builders; reigning Mr. Kampala Mubarak Kizito and Robert Yiga.
