CDF Katumba Wamala on Tenterhooks over continued military shootings

Commander of Defense Forces, Gen. Katumba Wamala is just in fear over continued military shootings in the army barracks and other public places.

Just like his colleague Gen Kale Kayihura who is battling brutality charges in court, Wamala is set to give a clear answer to his boss, Commander in Chief of Defense Forces Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on why there are many uncontrolled shootings by UPDF soldiers to civilians, and fellow soldiers.

Museveni while concluding a one week retreat in Kyankwanzi, expressed concern over cases of soldiers involved in mass shootings.

He blamed the recent shootings in or near army barracks that have left many dead, on poor gun-handling and management.

The president wondered why an officer who is not on duty should have a firearm yet there are selected places where guns are supposed to be kept.

Museveni vowed to task the heads of security agencies to explain why and how errant officers gain access to guns which they use to kill innocent people.

Museveni’s reaction came after incidents of soldiers shooting and killing people are increasing.

It is believed that some of the soldiers have served in war zones such as South Sudan and Somalia and analysts say the acts are as a result of war trauma.
