Chaos as Nambooze Disrupts EC Meet, Faces Possible Disqualification

The Mukono Municipality MP, Hon Betty Nambooze Bakireke on Tuesday landed herself in hot soup after she tried to disrupt a meeting that was held at the Mukono District Electoral Commission headquarters with the Chairperson, Badru Kiggundu as the chief guest.

The meeting was mainly about mitigation of election violence in 2016 general elections

This meeting was held in order to help reconcile rival candidates like the NRM Flag bearer, Mayor Johnson Muyanja Senyonga and Mukono South MP, Hon Rev Peter Bakaluba Mukasa; as well as Nambooze and her closest opponent Fatuma Ndisaba.

No sooner had Kiggundu taken to the platform than Nambooze, DP Mayoral candidate George Kagimu and their rowdy supporters decided to make a drive, passing directly at the electoral commission where the meeting was taking place.

They argued that they were going to their rally that had been organized at Deilah Hotel in Mulago ward in Mukono Central Division.

This prompted the police to intervene and ordered Nambooze and her supporters to decrease their music of which they adamantly refused.

The police was forced to remove one of the vehicles’ number plate, UAU 799U.

The car driver decided to cry until he was given his number plate.

However, candidates that had attended the meeting decided to tell Kiggundu their problems where most of them seemed to agree that Nambooze was the biggest problem in Mukono politics.

“Mr. Kiggundu, if my fellow candidates are scared to talk about this then I will speak for them. The biggest problem that we have in Mukono is Nambooze and if she isn’t worked on as soon as possible then trouble will befall us,” FDC Mukono Municipality MP candidate, Moses Lukubira Bakubi said.

He added that the returning officer should recommend that Nambooze is disqualified from the Mukono race since Kiggundu has now experienced what they have been talking about.

Kiggundu responded by saying that if they make a joint complaint in writing as politicians in Mukono then it will be possible to disqualify her.

According to Kiggundu in an interview with journalists, he said that he was shocked to see that the person he has always respected like Nambooze can disrespect him and the meeting because it is obvious she did it on purpose since she was aware of the meeting.

“I am disappointed in Nambooze because it’s obvious she has disrupted the attention of those listening by bringing commotion in the neighborhood which is a sign of total indiscipline. She should calm down and be human as well as learn to respect other people.”
