Defiler Jailed For 25-years

Soroti High Court today sentenced a 24 year old man to 25 years imprisonment for committing aggravated defilement against a 3 year old girl.

Moses Obedi (24), a resident of Alungar village in Bugondo sub-county in Serere district allegedly committed the offence on 23rd December 2011.

The resident Judge for Soroti High Court, Lady Justice Henrietta H. Wolayo today concluded and passed judgments for ten capital cases that have been before her.

According to Court Obedi readily admitted committing the offence thus attracting leniency by court.

Contrary to section 129 (3) (4) a of the penal code act court said that since the accused intentionally and violently defiled a 3 year old child.

Court noted that because the accused pleaded guilty as mitigating factor appropriate sentence of 25 years was given since he has been on remand from December 2011.

The facts in the charge sheet indicated that the accused took advantage after the victim was sent to his home to collect a cup by her mother Loyce Asawo at about 6:00 p.m.

The accused reportedly lured the young child to carry on his lamps thereafter deceived the child as if he was playing with her before he pulled his penis and inserted into the child’s private parts.

After waiting for a while the mother sent Appolo Elungat the elder brother to check on what had caused her delay. Her brother found her violated and Elungat reported the matter to L.C.s and the accused was consequently arrested.

Francis Ebau (19), another defilement convict was given 10 years imprisonment for waylaying and forcefully defiling a primary pupil of Kamuda primary school in Soroti district.
