DP Okays Kezaala Resignation

The Democratic Party has accepted the resignation of Mohammad Kezaala from his position as party national chairperson.

“In deep regret, we accept his resignation” DP President Norbert Mao said.

He added that some prominent party members met with Kezaala to convince him to reject the appointment, but their efforts were futile.

Kezaala announced his resignation on Monday night after pressure was mounted on him to choose between running party affairs and accepting the position of deputy ambassador that President Museveni offered him.

“Being a civil service job, which do not require partisanship, and for the fact that I may not be available, I will be unable to serve our party in the capacity of national chairman,” he noted.

In the new diplomatic appointments made by President Museveni on Friday last week, Kezaala was proposed for a position in the diplomatic service of Uganda as a deputy ambassador.

He now awaits vetting by parliamentary appointments committee.
