Rebel MPs; NRM Calls For Primaries

Professor Elijah Mushemeza, the ruling National Resistance Movement’s Electoral Commission chief has called for applications from those seeking to replace the four expelled Members of Parliament to submit their applications to the party’s secretariat for vetting.

This is going to be done in preparation for the party’s primaries that will be held at a date yet to be announced.

The expelled MPs are Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga), Barnabas Tinkasiimire (Buyaga), Wilfred Niwagaba (Ndorwa East) and Mohammad Nsereko (Kampala Central). The four rebel MPs were last week expelled from NRM and according to the party’s secretary general who is also Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, they are supposed to lose their parliamentary seats.

MP Vincent Kyamadidi (Rwampara) got off with a three-month suspension from all party activities.

The speaker of parliament is yet to pronounce herself on the matter.

CEC believes that Ms Kadaga has no option but to dismiss the MPs from the august House. One senior official put it that “if she doesn’t, she will have a problem. Our Caucus can ask to discipline her or even demand her removal.”

This means the ball has been played into Ms Kadaga’s court and she must pass it for the game to continue.
