Four security guards have been arrested after unknown people gained access into the main branch of Orient Bank on Kampala Road on Sunday night.
According to Emilian Kayima, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, the guards in police custody are attached to two private security companies- Securex and Saracen.
They were arrested while at police to report the incident.
“The guards reported at our police post on Nkrumah Road that the bank had been broken into. We arrested them as the first suspects to help us in our investigations,” Kayima said while at CPS.
He said a team of investigators went to the bank and realized some doors had been broken while others had been tampered with.
The police is yet to establish what was missing from the bank since all the workers and managers were not available at the time when the incident happened.
“We recovered keys abandoned inside. We talked to managers and we shall record statements from workers to establish whether some items were stolen,” Kayima said.
Kayima said they had contacted managers of the two security companies and agreed to conduct a joint investigation since they suspect collusion.
The Orient Bank’s incident come barely a week after a security guard attached to Security 2000 Limited, a private security company, drew a gun at his bosses and stole Shs35, 000 and two mobile phones.
