High Court to Decide on Mumbere’s Bail Application Today

The Jinja based High Court is today evening expected to decide on whether to release the Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere on bail or not.
Mumbere on January 12 appeared before High court Judge Eva Luswata who set today at 3pm to give her final ruling on the matter.
Mumbere is together with over 150 royal guards battling various charges including; terrorism, murder, treason, aggravated robbery among others in relation to Kasese clashes.
The DPP had sought to block Mumbere’s bail application at the Jinja High Court claiming it has no jurisdiction to entertain the application, since it involves terrorism charges that can only be heard by the international crimes division.
However, Jinja High Court Judge Eva Luswata dismissed DPP’s claims saying that her court has jurisdictions to grant bail if there is need to.
Luswata added that at this stage when the DPP has not yet committed Mumbere for trial before the ICD, the king can appear before any High Court judge for purposes of bail hearing.
Meanwhile, Mumbere presented 6 sureties as part of his bail requirements.
These sureties include the Leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza, his former premier Constantine Bwambale, Robert Centenary of Kasese Municipality, Tonny Muhindo of Bukonzo East, William Nzoghu of Busongora North and Atikins Katusabe from Bukonzo West.
