Asan Kasingye has confirmed that he will be leaving his post as Police Spokesman immediately to focus his energies on ‘commissariat work’.

Red Pepper, quoting sources had reported earlier today that Kasigye had been replaced.

STATEMENT: IGP Appoints Kayima

The Police shortly announced that indeed Emirian Kayima will take over Kasingye’s role as the mouth piece of the police. The change takes immediate effect.

Red Pepper can confirm that its Kasigye who requested to be REMOVED from the post of Police Spokesman. A close friend of Kasingye told us in confidence that Kasingye had never been comfortable in that role and that he had written to the ‘powers’ to be removed.

Our source told us: ‘This morning he told us his request had been granted and that today would be is last day as Police Spokesman.’

Kasigye’s last role was to issue a statement responding to a report by the World Internal Security and Police Index (WISP) , The International Science Association (IPSA) and the Institute For Economics and Peace (IEP) that ranked the Uganda Police among the worst five Police Forces in Africa.
