Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich finished second at the 2015 Tokyo Marathon that ended on Sunday.
Ethiopia’s Endeshaw Negesse beat a field of several top runners to win the race with a time of 2:06:00.
Kiprotich who is now assured of a cash prize of UGX96 million (US$33, 585) clocked 2:06.33 for coming second.
The Ethiopian pulled away from defending champion Dickson Chumba over the final 3 kilometres to kick to the finishing line. The Kenyan Chumba settled for third place with time of 2:06:34.
Another Ethiopian Birhane Dibaba won comfortably on the women’s side, while Helah Kiprop from Kenya was second and Tiki Gelana (Ethiopia) third.
The top eight finishers are all assured of cash prizes, while the winner takes a cash prize of (UGX192 million) US$67,164 and the runner-up UGX96 million (US$33,585).
