Kyabazinga’s Appointment As Ambassador Benefits Basoga – Oryem
The State minister for foreign affairs, Okello Oryem has defended President Yoweri Museveni’s decision to appoint Busoga King, Kyabazinga Gabula Nadiope as an envoy saying the position will benefit the people of Busoga.
Whereas Gabula’s role has not been specifically stated, there are overtures that he will represent President Yoweri Museveni before other traditional and cultural institutions.
“His role is to represent the president on special assignments and most of those assignments will be related to countries that have monarchs, like United Kingdom and countries in the Middle East.” Oryem said.
Nadiope after approval will become the first sitting Monarch to hold such a position in what has been interpreted as the violation of Uganda’s constitution that bans traditional leaders in partisan politics.
However, the government maintains that the president did this in the best interest of the people of Busoga.
Nadiope replaces ambassador Njuneki who collapsed in the plane and died in South Africa last year.
