M7 Embarrassed Us On Kasese Attacks — Kasirye Gwanga
By Serestino Tusingwire
The outspoken army veteran, Brig. Kasirye Gwanga has attacked his boss the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni over Kasese clashes that left over 100 dead.
In an interview with a local newspaper, Daily Monitor, Gwanga said Museveni was wrong to order the arrest of Omusinga wa Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere in a such dehumanizing manner as the police did it.
He argues that the Mumbere should be released because the charges against him are outdated and that his arrest came in after Museveni lost an election in Kasese district during the recently concluded general elections.
“The king should be released. His people are bitter and will not sit back. Look at the nature of the arrest. Does President Museveni imagine Ugandans are stupid? You arrest the man for allegedly killing a police man in March; even then why did he wait to lose terribly in Kasese before remembering the king killed someone a year or two ago? People add up these things! It is a big mess and Museveni has embarrassed all of us,” Gwanga said.
It’s worth noting that at the end of November gunfire gutted parts of Kasese district as royal guards clashed with security and over 100 people died.
Many others were arrested including the Omusinga who is accused of being the mastermind of the attack.
