Addressing residents of Kween district yesterday, Mbabazi argued that the hand hoes are outdated and cannot be relied on to eradicate poverty in Uganda.

“You have been promised hoes; the old hoe is good but an outdated tool for poverty alleviation. We have used hoes for centuries but we have not defeated poverty. How can we then say, let’s use a hoe to defeat poverty?” Mbabazi said.

He added; “the hoe has its uses. It has kept us alive, kept us in subsistence farming, but to create wealth we need to do more than that. We need to increase our productivity in the harsh environment where we are suffering from over population especially in these farm rich areas of Sebei.”

Mbabazi said that Go Forward is not a political party but a message that understand people’s conditions and If elected into power will bring change to Uganda which will allow citizens to meet their aspirations.

Selling his Advanced Sub County Model (ASM), Mbabazi noted that it will help improve people’s living standards.

He said the model will come with the introduction of banks in each sub county to enable farmers acquire loans without land titles but national IDs.

“The model of development is highly dependent on the communities getting involved in production but production that is rewarding and meaningful,” he said.

“Sebei region produces a lot of maize and wheat. This you sell here and also across the border to Kenya. Our government will facilitate this by setting up a government seed company. To improve yield you need improved seed. This is one area that must be protected by government.”
