Minister denies Supporting Mbabazi

State Minister for works Asuman Kiyingi has denied media reports that he has defected to Go Forward group to support former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbaabzi who is contesting for presidency.

In a statement, Kiyingi who is contesting as an independent member of parliament said media reports are based on the choice of the chair as his symbol which is also used by the Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi.

“We wish to refer to recent reports in some sections of the media that have reported our ‘defection’ to Go Forward and support for the candidature of the Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi. According to the reports this conclusion is based, in part, on the choice of the chair as our symbol which symbol is also used by the Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi,” he said in statement yesterday.

Adding; “I still subscribe to the NRM party and am a serving Minister in the NRM government. I therefore fully support the candidature of H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the NRM flagbearer.”

Kiyingi said he chose to use the Chair as his symbol because it is very well known to his supporters. “I used it in the last 2011 elections where I stood as an Independent having been cheated in the NRM primaries in almost similar manner and circumstances. To date many of my supporters have my old posters with the chair symbol in their houses.”

He is vying for Member of Parliament seat for Bugabula South constituency as an Independent candidate.
