Mumbere To Blame For Kasese Massacre – Mukula

By Serestino Tusingwire

Captain Mike Mukula has blamed the recent Kasese clashes on the failure by the Rwenzururu King, Charles Wesley Mumbere to heed to the government’s directives to surrender the Royal Guards.

It is worth noting that early this year, an armed group attacked the  police and an army barracks in Kasese district and hacked ten security officers to death.

As the tension heightened, President Museveni appointed Capt. Mike Mukula to help put an end to the bitter rivalry between communities in the districts of the Rwenzori region and government forces.

Mukula, the mediator said an agreement was reached between the Rwenzururu king and President Museveni that all armed groups that were using the Rwenzururu Kingdom as a cover should be handed over as they were becoming a security threat.

He however claimed that the king did not heed to any of the recommendations and was allegedly buying more time as more groups continued to train in the mountains.

On Sunday the UPDF stormed the palace and over 60 people were left dead and many other including the king himself arrested.

Despite the deterioration of relations between the Rwenzururu kingdom and government, Mukula believes that there is still an opportunity to extend an olive branch in order to heal fractured communities and bring stability to Rwenzori sub-region.
