NCS, UOC Bickering Comes To An End

Following months of discussion and negotiations, National council of sports and Uganda Olympic committee have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on how to collectively develop sports.

Chairman of NCS Bosco Onyiki and General Secretary Nicholas Muramagi signed for National council of sports, while UOC Vice President Tashobya and Secretary General Donald Rukare signed for the other party. The signing was witnessed by the Minister of state for sports, Charles Bakkabulindi.

The MOU marks a positive turning point in relationship between the two sporting bodies. It was agreed that each party would respect the mandates and roles of the other.

It is also agreed that joint preparations for major Commonwealth and All Africa Games would be undertaken. This is an epic moment for sports in Uganda as a new wave of Cooperation between National council of sports and Uganda Olympic Committee has commenced

“UOC regrets and hereby withdraws its past public statements that may have tantamount to challenging and not recognizing the legal mandate of NCS of registering National Sports Associations and Federations,” Rukare read one of the four terms contained in the MOU.

“UOC recognizes the authority of the Government, exercised through NCS as the only mandated authority to register any and all National Sports Associations and Federations under the NCS Act, Regulation No.38/2014,” Rukare added.

Both parties in the MOU commended state minister for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi, NCS chairman Bosco Onyik and his team and the UOC team and pledged to ensure development of Sports in Uganda.
