New USA Ambassador excited to be coming to the pearl of Africa

New United States of America Ambassador to Uganda Deborah Malac has said she excited to be coming to Uganda, the pearl of Africa.

In a video message posted on the US embassy Facebook page, Malac said USA expects free, transparent and fair elections, free from violence. Uganda goes to polls on Thursday, next week.

“I am delighted to be the next USA ambassador to Uganda and very excited to be coming to the pearl of Africa. What an exciting time to be in Uganda,” she said.

Adding; “national elections are proving to be a spirited contest and we hope to witness a free fair and transparent process free from violence. Whoever wins, United States will remain committed to strengthening our cooperation on issues of neutral concern.”

Travelling throughout Uganda

Malac said she hopes travel throughout Uganda and meet as many people as possible.

“I look forward to travelling throughout Uganda and meeting as many of you as possible. I have heard many inspiring stories about creativity and talent of Uganda’s youth and can’t wait to hear directly from you about your hopes for the future. I will see you soon.”

Malac was nominated the next Ambassador to Uganda by US President Barack Obama late last year.

She replaced Scott H. DeLisi who served as US Ambassador to Uganda since September 3, 2012.

She is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, who has served with the Department of State since 1981.

Previously, Malac served as the Director of the Office of East African Affairs.
