Uganda police Force yesterday raided GoForward offices belonging to independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi.
The aim of the raid though is still unclear, it comes just after Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura’s statement in Ntungamo on Monday where he said Mbabazi must disband his militia or they be arrested. He also called for investigations into the matter.
Kayihura’s comments came at the backdrop of a clash between Mbabazi and Museveni supporters in Ntungamo municipality on Sunday evening when the latter was holding a campaign in the area.
Red Pepper has learnt that Security officers and others in plain clothes surrounded Go Forward offices at Plot 29 Nakasero Road in the evening hours to arrest Security members of Amama Mbabazi.
Go Forward spokesperson Josephine Mayanja Nkangi said police officers in uniform were removed but plain clothed officers remained lurking around their offices past 10:00pm.
She said police has not been of help.
“When in Jinja, police only pretended to protect Mbabazi. Even in Ntungamo, they simply stared on. We urge NRM boys to remain calm. We can’t control our people and them at same time. They are responsible for themselves.”
