Recite Prayers for Pope’s Visit— Archbishop Lwanga

The Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has called upon Catholics to recite prayers at the end of every Mass and in every family for the aim of Pope’s visit and its success.

He said that the pope’s visit and presence during the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of canonisation of Uganda martyrs next month requires Catholics to prepare in a special way in order to worthily receive his blessings.

“Daily recite ‘our father,’ ‘Hail Mary’ and ‘Glory be to the father’ at the end of every Mass and in every family for the intention of the pope and the success of his visit,” he said.

Lwanga who doubles as the Uganda Episcopal Conference spokesperson made the remarks yesterday while addressing media at Nsambya catholic Secretariat.

He said that Catholics should also engage in acts of charity towards the poor and practice works of penance so as to receive the papal blessings in a worthy manner.

Other acts that Lwanga pointed out include seeking reconciliation, avoiding vices like polygamy, cohabitation, witchcraft as well as caring and providing for the poor and caring for the environment.

“Care for the environment in line with the aspirations of the pope contained in his encyclical on care of our common home (Laudato),” he said.

Namugongo Shrine Re-development

“As part of the preparations for the Pope’s visit, the church in partnership with the government of Uganda, undertook to redevelop the Uganda martyrs shrine at Namugongo,” Lwanga said.

“I am glad to inform you that the work is in progressing well, and we are confident that the shrine will be ready by the time the Popes comes.”
