Robbers Steal Offertory From Masaka Priest’s Residence

Police in Masaka are hunting for robbers who attacked Luvule Catholic Parish priest residence on Tuesday night and stole at least 700,000 shillings cash and other property.

The parish under Maasaka Diocese is located at Luvule, along Masaka Bukakata road in Bukakata Sub County in Masaka district.

According to Luvule parish priest Rev. Ft. Steven Kijambu, the four robbers armed with a gun attacked their residence which is adjacent to the church at around 2:30am.

He says that they ordered him to open his door and he refused. They then proceeded to break into 6 other rooms making off phones, clothing, television sets and DVD players among other house property.

Rev. Ft. Kijambu further said that the thugs broke into a room where offertory was kept making away with more than 700,000 shillings.

He explains that the robbery lasted more than 30 minutes as they ransacked the place.

Ft. Kijambu however says that even though the thieves attacked the parish offices and their residence, nothing was stolen from the church.

The southern region police spokesperson Noah Sserunjoji says that police has recovered four bullets from the scene of crime saying that police investigations into the theft have kicked off.

He says that police has started hunting for the robbers who attacked the church saying that soon they will be brought to the book.

Last year unidentified thieves broke into St. Mathew’s Catholic Church in Mbirizi Sub-county in Lwengo district, and made away with church property and offertory.
