Rwakafuzi Sues AG over Besigye
By Serestino Tusingwire
Ladislaus Rwakafuzi a human rights lawyer and a personal lawyer to Dr. Kizza Besigye has dragged the Attorney General to High court seeking compensation for loss of business through actions of the Uganda Police on his client.
According to Rwakafuzi, on November 19, police blocked his client from accessing his office at Uganda House along Kampala road.
Rwakafuzi contends that he had an appointment to meet Besigye that day for consultations and further instructions but no sooner had he reached at Uganda House, than police commanded by Geoffrey Kaheebwa blocked him from entering the parking area and accessing his lawyer’s office.
Police later towed his car to Kira road police station thus blocking the meeting.
Rwakafuuzi wants this payment of damages for several violations of his rights to practice his legal profession, engage in free trade and business as per the Constitution and also for the inconvenience and embarrassment he suffered.
Rwakafuzi also wants court’s declaration that the said actions of the Uganda Police are unconstitutional and that Geoffrey Kaheebwa is unfit to hold office as a Regional Police Commander.
Court has summoned the Attorney General to file his defense in court within 15 days.
