Sabiiti Withdraws Petition Against Oil Cash Probe
By Serestino Tusingwire
The controversial lawyer Eric Sabiiti has today withdrawn the petition which he had filed to court seeking to block any person or organ from investigating the Shs6bn given to government top shots as a reward for winning the case against an oil firm.
His petition had been Okayed by the Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma who on Monday issued an injunction restraining parliament, any person or authority from investigating, questioning or inquiring into the saga.
However, the order faced harsh reactions from parliament and the general public which prompted Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to adjourn the house until the order is withdrawn.
In his brief letter dated January 12, Sabiiti has notified constitutional court that he has withdrawn the petition and he is no longer interested in it.
“I Eric Sabiiti, being the petitioner/applicant in the above matters hereby withdraw the above constitutional petition No.4 of 2017; Sabiiti Eric Vs the Attorney General and constitutional Application No. 6 of 2017.” The letter reads.
Kadaga is now expected to recall parliament since the order has been withdrawn.
