While addressing a press conference today morning, Lukwago said government is trying to grab people’s power and invest it in one person.

“It is a sad moment that President Museveni has decided to jettison the principles that informed the 5 years in Luwero… After failing to convince Ugandans to give him (Museveni) power in Kampala, he decides to tinker with the law. Shame upon you,” he said.

Adding; “If they say that the Lord Mayor’s office is ceremonial why are they struggling to strip the Lord Mayor of all executive powers?”

Yesterday, government tabled a bill in parliament proposing to amend the current Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Act so as to have city lord mayor elected from the Councillors.

Lukwago who was impeached in 2013 has been out of office since then but he is trying to contest for the same office in the coming elections.

Lukwago said “they” are not going to accept the manoeuvres.

“We are going to resist in whatever manner provided for in the Constitution. We are putting President Museveni on notice that we are prepared to go to the trenches”

Set for Nomination

He said “they” are set for the nominations on Monday and he will go ahead. Lukwago showed signatures of people who have endorsed his candidature.

“We have five days to go to our Nominations on Monday and we have already booked Monday morning. Let’s see how they will do it”
