She Cranes Demolish Zambia In World Cup Opener

She Cranes have started on high in the Netball World Cup in Sydney –Australia after routing Zambia 74-38 in their World Cup opener.

Making a first Indoor Netball World Cup appearance since 1979, the She Cranes started strongly, setting up an early 22-10 first quarter lead and from then they never felt any set back till the last whistle.

The garrant She Cranes went ahead to win the last three quarters 18-11, 15-9 and 19-8 to clinch to a 74-38 hour mark past fellow African side from Zambian

Towering skipper and Captain, Peace Proscovia led the assault scoring a game high 56 points, while goal attacker Racheal Nanyonga notched a (12) pointer mark and 7 assists to end Zambia’s hope on match day 1.

Meanwhile Wing Attack, Ruth Meme recorded a 20 goal assistance and made 2 interceptions while Center, Halima Nakacwa had 12 assists.

She Cranes coach, Rashid Mubiru made the first substitution in the fourth quarter with Stella Oyella paving way for Racheal Nanyonga who scooped an 8 goals mark in the game. Alice Nanteza came in for Florence Nanyonga.

Both Uganda and Zambia are making their second World Cup appearance.

Zambia had last fielded a team on the global stage in 1999 while Uganda made their first appearance at the same event in 1979 in Trinidad and Tobago.

Uganda now leads Pool D, followed by Wales who beat Fiji 59-52 .

Uganda will meet Fiji on Saturday in their next game..

In another all-African affair in Pool C, Malawi beat South Africa 58-51 while Singapore beat Sri Lanka 56-43.
Meanwhile in Pool B, England thumped Scotland 69-12 on the opening day in Sydney.

The English side next meets Jamaica who were comfortable winners over Samoa in a 90-44 victory.
