Top Victoria University S.6 Vacists Challenge Finalists’ Unveiled

In a bid to analyze and find out the extent to which social media has been helpful or harmful among the young generation, Victoria University recently initiated a debate competition dubbed ‘ Social Media: Beneficial or Harmful.”

The university senior Marketing Specialist, Charity Byarugaba told Red Pepper that, their focus was to  identify students’ views on how  WhatsApp and Facebook, have benefited them.

“We decided to get the students arguments’ in regard to questions like; Does Social Media increase social interaction and connections? Are Social networking sites disasters spoiling them as Children and nothing more than tools for Narcissists and Internet Trolls?, Are Social networking sites really destroying natural and healthy interpersonal relationships? Are they an Infiltration of security? Will Social Media break-up Families if continued to be used?  Among others areas,” Charity explained.

She added that, the competitors who are particularly S.6 Vacists, formulated groups of six with each group comprising of 10 Debaters.

“Those who will reach the top finals will stand chances of scooping top cash prizes, phones, gift hampers among others,” Charity said.

Meanwhile, the competition has attracted a number of prominent schools in the country, which include; Entebbe SS, Kampala SS, Merryland High School, St Francis Senior Secondary School, Kyambogo College, Mpoma Royal College, Alliance High School, Equator College, Citizen Collage, Old Kampala SS, Trinity College Nabingo, Kitende, Kawempe Mbogo, Kampala SS, Naalya SS Namugongo, Mpoma Royal, Luzira SS, Everest SS, St Joseph Nsambya , Bethany, Ntare School, and  Merryland High School.

Others are; Seeta High, Kisubi Seminary, Merryland, Seroma High School, St Henrys College Kitovu, St Marys college Kisubi, Najanankumbi Young Christian School, Lubiri SS, Makindye SS, Lubiri SS, Mukono Hillside, Bishop Ciprano, Mengo Senior School, Seroma High School, Katikamu SDA, Mengo Ss, Gayaza Cambridge College, Gayaza High School, Mbogo college, Nabisunsa Girls School, St Marys college Kisubi, Ndejje SS, Uganda Martyrs Namugongo, Nagalama SS, St Mary’s Kitende, Namilyango College, Kawanda Ss, Crane High School, Makerere College, St Lawrence Creamland, Pride SS Mityana, Mityana SS, and St Lawrence Paris Palais.

Meanwhile, come this Saturday, 25th July, 2015, which will be the university’s Open day, winners shall be recognized and awarded with their by a team of Credible and Intelligent Judges who will be led by the VU Faculty Coordinator of ICT, among others.
