14-Day Ultimatum For Foreigners To Quit Extended

The Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Amelia Kyambadde has extended the 14-day Ultimatum that was given to foreigners in petty trade to quit the country.

Members of Parliament on the committee on tourism, trade and industry last week issued this ultimatum arguing that the foreigners should not compete with Ugandans in small businesses yet they come as investors.

However, in her response, minister Kyambadde said that the 14-day ultimatum given to foreigners is too limited and unenforceable.

Kyambadde said this on Monday while appearing before parliament’s committee on trade and industry to give an update on the directive.

She further told law makers that after an inter-government agency meeting, foreigners have been given up to the end of this month to quit petty business or be deported.

The committee chaired MP Kenneth Lubogo has now agreed to follow the new deadline.
