Mayuge Grade One Magistrate, Francis Matenga Dawa, has sentenced a 16-year-old boy to 12 months in prison for stealing nine chicken eggs.
Prosecution sitting at Mayuge grade one magistrate’s court on April 16 heard that Umar Basage committed the offence on April 1.
The Tsetse zone resident broke into Kusaine Biiso’s house and stole nine eggs valued at 3, 450 shillings each. Biiso is a resident of Buyemba village, Mayuge district.
Basage was returning home from a football match at Tawheed Primary school when he decided to break into Biiso’s house. The teenager made his way to the kitchen where a hen was laying eggs and took them. No one was at home at the time.
However, Basage was seen by one of Biiso’s neighbours who raised an alarm and the juvenile was apprehended by residents.
The state prosecutor Timothy Keem asked that Basage be given a severe penalty to discourage other youth from the growing vice of breaking and entering homes in the area.
Basage was sent to Kampiringisa Rehabilitation Centre to serve his term.
