OFF THE HOOK! DPP Withdraws Charges Against MTN Bosses

MTN executives have reason to celebrate. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Richard Butera  has withdrawn court case number 276-2012 previously brought under private prosecution against a number of MTN Uganda executives. This was based on the fact that there is no evidence to prosecute.

The Chief Magistrate of the Buganda Road Court formally accepted the withdrawal of the case.and  This brings to end all matters related to the tax evasion scam the thirteen Directors of the MTN Uganda including the South Africa-based top honcho Sifiso Dabengwa are said to have orchestrated, the executives  faced up to169 counts of evading taxes of up to Shs 70bn, false declaration and conspiracy to falsify declaration.

They are Charles Mbire, Mazen Mroué, Khumo Shuenyane, Nosipho Molope, Sifiso Dabengwa, Christian de Faria, Ignatius Sehoole, Nozipho-January Bardill, Anthony Mutyaba Katamba, Francois Tefouet, Mervyn Immelman, Mike Blackburn, Nigel Williams.

The suit arose after a former MTN logistics officer, Naphtali Were, dragged the company directors to court and secured criminal summons against them.
