The police in Mubende are holding 50 year-old man for killing his neighbour and abducting a nine year old girl.
Martin Okiriya, the deputy CID Chief at Mubende police station, identified the suspect as Isma Mukiibi, a resident of Bulo, in Gomba district.
Mukiibi, according to the police allegedly, attacked and killed a 70 year old woman, Nansansi Tereza in 2009, and then kidnapped her 9 year old granddaughter (names withheld) at Kiyuni in Mubende district.
Okiriya says that since then, Mukiibi has been hiding with the girl in Bulo, Butambala district, from where he had been defiling her.
He adds that the victim is currently undergoing treatment at the Mubende regional referral hospital. Medics are yet to release a report on her health status.
He explains that the charge of defilement was opened at the Kanoni police station where he was first arrested and the rest of the charges are in Mubende.
Relatives of the girl converged at the police station in excitement to see her.
Lubega Godfrey, a maternal uncle to the girl, say that the death of Nansansi and disappearance of the girl had created differences among the family members. Some of the family members accused others of conniving with the murderers and helping in the kidnap of the girl.
He says her recovery is going to help healing the divisions in their family.
