The Public Service Ministry has blamed the mess in the payment of public servant’s salary last month to a technical error. The most affected government employees include Police, Prisons and Teaching staff. Jonas Tumwine, the spokesperson ministry of public service says there was a technical error while processing the pay roll for the month of February.
The salary complaints came to light on Monday after police officers tasked their bosses to explain the mess in their salary release. Some of the Cops received more money than they expected, while others received less. Tumwine says that the ministry is doing everything possible to rectify the technical problem before the next salary release.
In March 13th notice to police staff, Charles Birungi, a Senior Commissioner of Police said the February salary had delayed because Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Public Service was moving the pay roll data from Uganda Computer Services to the Integrated Personnel and Payroll system, (IPP).
He also said that under the new policy all salaries would be paid by the Ministry of Public Service. A police officer at Police headquarters who declined to be named confirmed they were recording names of police officers who had missed their salaries to be sent to the Ministry of Public Service.
