Sironko NRM Officials Blamed For The Party’s Poor Performance

NRM members in Sironko are blaming the poor performance of the party in the district to corrupt party officials. This was revealed by the party members over the weekend in a meeting convened by Patrick Amama Mbabazi, the NRM secretary at Sironko District council hall. The NRM supporters claimed the party had failed to deliver on most of its pledges becauseof bad leadership and corruption.

They particularly singled out Isaiah Shibuta, the NRM District Secretary. The members claimed that his love for money has jeopardized by party activities.

They accused Shibuta of soliciting bribes from candidates who want to contest in the party primary elections before he endorses their candidature for any elective position. Fred Mafabi, the Sironko Town Council NRM youth league chairperson said such corruption tantamounts to maladministration and abuse of office which he said is responsible for the failure of the party in the district. He said in some instances Shibuta endorses two candidates after receiving money from both aspirants.

He said this has resulting to infighting amongst party members leading to poor performance.

Moses Wanda, the LC III councilor for Mazimasa Sub County disclosed that Shibuta collects money from him each month allegedly to facilitate party activities in the district. Wanda said they are tired of associating with NRM, which is dominated by corrupt party officials.

He urged the party leadership to take serious disciplinary action against all officials implicated in corruption. Wanda claimed that the confusion in the party leadership in Sironko has made many people to defect to the opposition.

Shibuta has denied accusations leveled against him. He however confessed that there were some elements of corruption in his office because of an ethical staffs who he accused of turning NRM primary elections into a business.

Mbabazi warned party officials for corruption saying that investigations will be opened against them. He asked the aggrieved party members to submit evidence to his office to back up their claims before proper investigations are instituted.

He also warned that NRM will not condone rebellion by some party members adding that, those found guilty of indiscipline will be kicked out.
