Repeating  what has become a trend in Ugandan Universities, Zalwango  Madinah won the Nkumba University Guild presidential race with 532 votes beating three men with a Wide margin over the weekend.

The former Namungoona Parent’s head prefect  defeated  NRM and FDC candidates to become the 4th lady to be voted guild president
in public universities this year.

The Entebbe based University’s 2013-14 guild Elections, saw Steven Nelson who also stood as an independent candidate, come second with
429 votes while NRM and FDC’s Kwizera Alex and Kalende Simon followed in the 3rd and 4th positions with 322 and 234 votes respectively.
Invalid votes were 22.

Giving a victory message to her supporters at Club L2, Zalwango Madinah thanked them for the huge support they showed her towards
triumphing referring it to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“Am so glad to say that we have won, absolutely thanks” a smiling second year Bachelors of Business Administration student, Madinah, said to her supports. “It is like the resurrection of Jesus”. Madinah who promised a victory party early next month added shortly after the ElectoralCommission chairman, Alinaitwe Bernard, pronounced her the overall winner.

Despite the Tensions,  the well deployed policemen and women calmed down the situation at the voting area.

The big margin of 103 votes set by the day’s victor, did not only leave the losers’ speechless as no one could claim for recounts, but also sent Zalwango Madinah’s supporters into early celebrations even Before the official  pronouncements. Zalwango replaces NRM’s Kayihura Felix who will hand over power early next month.

  1. It was good an independent won. Why should political parties penetrate student politics?
