Three teams have qualified to represent Teso sub region in the National Copa Coca Cola School’s cup 2013 at Kigezi high school in Kabale district next month. They are Amuria High School, Midland High School and Nyero Rock High School. The schools qualified after a two days competition held at Soroti municipal stadium involving 16 teams from eight districts in Teso sub region on Sunday. Amuria high school emerged overall winner in the regional Coca Cola post football competition.
Amuria H/S edged out Mid land H/S 5-4 goals on spot kicks after the team tied in a goalless draw during full time. Nyero Rock High school beat Kobulubulu SS to claim the third runner up. However, during the tournament several players were screened out. Silas Oluka, the Coordinator Regional COPA Coca Cola told URN that over 20 players were thrown out of the tournament because they were ineligible.
He says that during the screening exercise, most of the players neither knew the names of their team mates nor teachers in the schools they were representing, an indication that they were mercenaries.
Pascal Obuttu, the chairperson Teso Sub region Secondary School Sports Association is confident that the three schools will ably represent the region in the National championship. Last year, Midland high school were the Regional champions of the COPA Coca Cola competitions.
