Former Cranes assistant Coach Moses Basena has said he is enjoying life as technical Director with Tanzania’s biggest club, Simba Sports Club.
Basena who has also handled local sides in Uganda KCCA FC, Express FC, SC Villa and army side Simba FC told Uganda Radio Network at the Namboole Stadium that he is finding the job interesting because it involves dealing with lots of technical aspects of the club including the youth team.
Basena who is proud to be the first technical director of a club in Tanzania said his job had been made easier by the fact that he already knew some of the Simba SC players from his time as Cranes head coach two years ago.
Speaking about his job that he took up seven months ago, Basena said he spearheads matters to do with setting up youth structures, draw strategies on how the team can progress in the next five year and also which players to be recruited to fit within the team philosophy.
He said although he is enjoying the job, it’s also very challenging because expectations of the club are high and the mentality of the Club is to achieve a lot. A dismal performance, by the club’s standards, of coming third in the national league and bowing out of the early stages of the CAF Champions League has piled the pressure on. He said that much is expected of the team in the next season.
About his team’s chances of winning the regional Cecafa Kagame Club Championship title in Sudan, the technical director said that they will have to dig deep to win it since they have a youthful team that still needs lots of exposure.
