Uganda Starts Digital Migration as UN Deadline Looms

As the international deadline for the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting draws nearer, questions have been raised whether Uganda will have smooth migration.

All is set for the long awaited migration by Uganda television broadcasters from analogue to digital transmission.Minister of ICT Ruhakana Rugunda is expected to launch it tomorrow.

Uganda broadcasting Corporation (UBC), the projected official transmission distributor has already acquired most of the necessary initial digital equipment which are currently being planted at Kololo.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be the ground breaking ceremony to flag off the migration and come June this year, a better part of Kampala and other surrounding cities should have shifted to digital signal.

Uganda media houses proprietors under their umbrella body the National Association of Broadcasters NAB are deeply concerned that despite these insinuations, Uganda is unlikely to beat the 2015 digital migration deadline.

  1. This is a very good development, it will kill off rumor mongering among media houses and provide the real occurrences happening within the city of Uganda and up country, where people are easily deceived by politicians when updating the public with what is happening in our country, people mostly from upcountry cant access live coverage of this TV stations for example UBC , among others. so the public is a football pitch for politicians to sell their selfish agenda. However on other side the public can judge events themselves if the politicians are manhandled or mistreated.
