URA failed to go past Rwandan champions at the Naga Stadium in Darfur, effectively ending hopes of a Uganda team winning the regional club tournament this year. Express FC had also lost 1-0 to Rwanda’s APR a day before.

Rayon took a 3-0 lead before the 10-man URA fought back strongly to score two goals and put the Rwandans under pressure.

DR Congo import Gentil Kambale Salita gave Rayon Sport the lead in the 5th minute before injured URA goalkeeper Yassin Mugabi was replaced. URA, who also fell out at the quarter final stage last year, tried to press the Rwanda team, but went into recess without scoring.

In the second half, poor communication between substitute goalkeeper Brian Bwete and defender Joseph Owino gifted the tournament’s leading scorer, Cedric Amissi, to score in an empty net.

The goal hungry Salita made it 3-0 in the 70th minute after some good passing. But after the substitution of skipper Augustine Nsumba, URA started pushing forward and pulled back two quick goals through Frank Kalanda and Feni Ali Muhamood. Derrick Walulya was later sent off for a second bookable offence.

After the game, Nkata said his team played well, but they got their scoring touch late in the game. He said his boys got disorganized after conceding an early goal. Rayon Sport’s French coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa was all praises for his team and said they will prepare better for the semi final match on Saturday against Burundi’s Vital’O.

Earlier, Vital’O humbled Djibouti’s Ports 6-0 in a one sided contest. Skipper Amisi Tambwe netted four goals, while Christian Mbirizi and Baby Miami Mbakiye were also on the score sheet.
