Bunyoro kingdom officials have remained silent even as rumours of the Omukama’s ill-health persist.

The Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru was last seen in public when he officiated at the closure of a church convention in Hoima on May 23. Since last week rumour in and out of the kingdom circles indicates that the Omukama had been flown abroad for treatment.

It’s alleged that the king was flown to a Chinese hospital over yet an unclear ailment. This could not however be confirmed as the Prime Minister Reverend Jackson Nsamba Kasozi was not in office  at the time a Redpepper reporter visited him. All his two known telephone lines could not go through.

Yolam Nsamba, the Omukama’s principle Private Secretary, declined to comment. He says he is not permitted to discuss the Omukama Iguru’s private life in the media. Nsamba, whose office sits in the Omukama’s Karuzika palace, says he would only make a statement when he’s told to do so.

The reports come less than a week to the Omukama Iguru’s 19th coronation anniversary “Empango “due June 11th. Nsamba insists the event will take place as usual.

Traditionally, the Empango ceremony can only take place when the king is around to perform all the associated rituals, including sounding of the huge drum Empango.

Meanwhile a our reporter noticed the absence of the two flags: the national flag and that of the kingdom that normally fly in front of the palace. The king’s official car was also parked in one of the sheds in the courtyard.
