After helping Tunisia’s Du Sahel storm to the Group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup, Emmanuel Okwi and Cyprus based Geoffrey Massa are expected to lead the goal hunt for Uganda against Liberia this Saturday. The two teams face-off in a Group J 2014 World Cup qualifier at the 42,500 capacity Seater Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. Head Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic told Uganda Radio Network on Thursday afternoon that he is looking at the duo to provide the goals that will give the team victory.
Micho says he trust Okwi and Massa to produce the magic. The likes of Hamis Kiiza who helped Young Africans win the Tanzania Premier League title and Daniel Sserunkuma will have to wait on the bench. Skipper Andy Mwesigwa is expected to lead the defense, while Abbey Dhaira will be in goal in the absence of Mamelodi Sundown’s Dennis Onyango who is suspended for the game because of two yellow cards. Uganda, fresh from a 3-0 loss to Libya in an International friendly cannot afford a loss as they bottom of Group J with two points.
Senegal top the group with five points, while Liberia are in second place and Angola third. The Lone Stars will be hoping that Anthony Laffour passes a late fitness test, while Patrick Wleh, score of one of the goals in their 2-0 win over the same team in Monrovia will be a starter on the team. “We are here to win,” said Liberia Coach Frank W. Nagwe.
