Security Beefed Over ADF, M23 Rebel Recruitment

Intelligence sources in western Uganda have confirmed that security agencies are on alert after reports indicated that a group of Allied Democratic Forces and DRC’s M23 members are recruiting locals into their ranks.

According to sources, unusual activities have been reported in the districts of Mbarara, Isingiro, Ibanda, Kiruhura, Ntungamo, Sembabule and Kasese among others.

“We got reports that a groups is setting up rebel training camps in some areas and we are treating the information with utmost care” a highly placed security who preferred anonymity said.

The source further confirmed that two of the camps in Kabingo in Isingiro and Nyamunuka in Ntungamo districts have already been located.

Information obtained reveals that some of the recruits targeted are mostly army deserters, LDUs, Iraq returnees and students.

The UPDF 2nd Division spokesperson, Lt. Rwemijuma Ninsiima however disputed the claims.

“We have been receiving such threats from ADF and other groups for sometime but we are always ready for them” Rwemijuma said.

He noted that security recently busted the M23 rebels in Kiruhura and added that security at the border posts is on alert.

“No one should get worried because the army is in control” he added.
