Soroti Mortuary Goes Two Years Without Water Over Debts

Soroti Municipal council mortuary has been operating for the last two years without piped water supply, which is vital for cleaning bodies before they are preserved.

National Water and Sewerage Corporation disconnected supply to the mortuary in August 2011 over an accumulated bill worth 970,000 shillings.

Michael Emiru, the Soroti municipal council Mortuary attendant says the bodies that are taken to the mortuary are kept without being cleaned because of lack of water.

Emiru says that whenever he receives bodies he dumps them in the mortuary in the very state they are brought.

Robert Ecait, the LC4 councilor for Nakatunya ward, where the mortuary is located says NWSC water supply after the municipality took long to clear the water bill. Peter Masiko, the Town Clerk Soroti Municipality says that they are organizing to pay off the outstanding water bill to have the supply restored.
