Tracing Mulago’s History Of Suicides

Police is investigating circumstances under which a suspected disgruntled man jumped from the sixth floor of Mulago Referral Hospital building and died on spot.the management of the Hospital claimed the Man was not registered anywhere as a patient and may have been Mentally disturbed. however, The Sunday incident adds to the several suicide cases at Mulago hospital.

In December, 2012 a woman identified as Joyce Nambalira, 25 who was believed to be pregnant, jumped to her death from a building at the health facility under unclear circumstances. then in July 2012, Enos Mubiru 45, from Bwaise a Kampala suburb, jumped from the sixth floor of the same building at Mulago Hospital and died instantly.

Another woman identified as Rose Katushabe from Kikoni in Kawempe Division also jumped from the fourth floor of Mulago Hospital building and died on spot. Joshua Kato from Kiboga District also died under similar circumstances.

Health experts say most of the suicide cases registered at Mulago Hospital are attributed to long illness especially from HIV/AIDS, cancer and failure by some patients to meet their medical bills.
