Colonel Shaban Bantariza, the newly-appointed Deputy Executive Director, Uganda Media Centre has been arrested over alleged mismanagement of money while working at the National Leadership Institute (NALI), Kyankwanzi.
As you read this, the former NALI Director Tuesday appeared before the General Court martial chaired by Brig. Moses Ddiba Ssentogo and was sent on remand to Makindye Military prison.
Col. Paddy Ankunda, the army Spokesman confirmed this news saying Bantariza could face Court Martial over the allegations against him.
Col. Bantariza is alleged to have mismanaged this money while working as Director of NALI. He was suspended from his post then over the same allegations. it is alleged that while working as Director of the National Leadership institute in Kyankwanzi, Col Bantariza took the institute’s Tractor and used it on his farm, however when he was asked he claimed he had bought the tractor at 67 million.
At the time, Bantariza was accused of treating the institute as his personal property and President Museveni is said to have recommended that he be disciplined “militarily” because the allegations against him were “too serious”.
At the time when UPDF was fighting Allied Democratic Forces, Lord’s Resistance Army in the 90’s, Bantariza worked as the army’s spokesman.
He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel upon enrolling at the Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka where he graduated in 2007.
Bantariza was deployed at the Army headquarters as Deputy Chief Political Commissar in 2008 after graduating. He was later appointed Commandant of the Oliver Tambo College, Kaweweta, from where he was transferred to Kyankwanzi in 2009.
