League Set for Epic KCC-Villa Opener

Uganda Premier League

SC Villa v KCC

Masaka v Vipers

Soana v CRO

Defending League champions Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club will open their title defense against SC Villa on August 20 at Nakivubo Stadium.

Mujib Kasule, the Vice President of the FA in-charge of the League said on Sunday night that although the KCCA FC-SC Villa game is one of the big games on the opening day, the full fixture will be released on Monday afternoon.

“Clubs agreed last week after a meeting that the league starts on August 20,” said Kasule.

The government of Uganda directed the football leaders to have only one league this season instead of the two that existed last season.

Decolas Kiiza, the Secretary of the FUFA Competitions Committee, also confirmed that the fixture for the first round will be out on Monday.

“We are expecting a smooth league this season,” added Kiiza.

However, although the league is set to kick-off next month it’s not yet clear if pay TV Supersport and Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) – who had a contract with the rival Uganda Super League (USL) – will come on board.

KCCA FC are the League champions and will represent Uganda in the CAF Champions League next year.

The other teams expected to feature in the new league are SC Villa, URA FC, Proline FC, Victors FC, SC Victoria University, Entebbe Young, Kira Young, Bidco, Masaka LC, Police FC, Simba FC and Vipers FC, Soana FC.

The new teams that qualified form the lower Division include; Soana FC, Bright Stars FC and CRO FC.

The first round is expected to conclude in November to create enough space for Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup and Chan Championship if Uganda progresses to the South African showpiece in January 2014.
