The appointments committee of parliament is scheduled to meet President Yoweri Museveni over the appointment General Aronda Nyakairima as Internal Affairs Minister. General Nyakairima was appointed in a recent cabinet reshuffle. However, parliament, which is charged with vetting the nominees, deferred his appointment pending consultations with Museveni.
It came after some MPs questioned whether it was okay to approve the appointment of Gen Aronda Nyakairima, who was still a serving army officer. Nyakairima was appointed minister shortly after he was replaced by Gen Aronda Nyakairima as Chief of Defense Forces. Helen Nanteza Kawesa, the Public Relations Officer of parliament says the committee met Museveni briefly last Friday but they were unable to conclude the discussions on the appointment of General Nyakairima.
She says that the committee is scheduled to meet Museveni sometime this week to resolve the issues surrounding Nyakairima’s appointment.
