Micho Opts For Kobs Buildup Again
Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has ruled out having friendly matches and instead opted for a repeat of last week’s buildup game against the national U-23 or rather a USL select side ahead of the return leg of the 2014 CHAN qualifier against Tanzania on July 27.
“I am going to engage the team more in training than trying them out in International build-up games yet we can get a good test here as well,” the coach told RED Pepper.com on Friday morning.
The Cranes carry a slim 1-0 lead after shocking the Taifa Stars last Saturday at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Micho explained that after making nine additions to the team he also has to spend lots of time to working on the players’ fitness levels and strategy.
“The strategy and tactical approach we employed in the first leg was perfect and we need to map out another tactic which will work for the return leg because I am aware the visitors will have nothing to lose, but come and attack from the word go,” added the coach.
The build-up will definitely provide them with a chance to try out the different combinations and a huge opportunity to try out the recently summoned players in play-makers Willy Kavuma and Augustine Nsumba, Winger, Azizi Kemba, strikers William Wadri, David Kasirye and Simon Okwi.
Promising Kemba, William Wadri, Kasirye and Okwi, are graduates from the Kobs’ team having played with the Kobs during last week’s trial match that Cranes won 3-1.
The URA skipper Nsumba and Express captain Willy Kavuma played important roles for their respective clubs that reached the quarterfinals at the recent 2013 Cecafa Kagame Club Championships in Sudan and Micho would want to see them recapitulate the form in his Chan team.
Defender Savio Kabugo of Sports Club Victoria University who played 90 minutes in Dar is most likely to rest out this match after twisting an ankle in Thursday’s training session but sources say he will beat the race to fitness.
