The Ugandan team of home based players have started non-residential training at Namboole as they prepare for this month’s Africa Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier away to Tanzania.
This follows confirmation of July 13 as the date for the tie in Dar es Salaam. The first leg was supposed to have been played last month but was pushed forward after Cecafa requested Caf to postpone it to allow Ugandan and Tanzanian clubs partake in the regional club tournament.
The same request necessitated change of the return leg, earlier slated for this weekend. It will now be on the weekend of July 25-28 in Kampala.
Chan is an imitation of the Africa Cup of Nations but only home-based players feature in this one. These qualifiers are a gateway to the 2014 edition which will be held in South Africa.
The qualifiers are played on regional basis. Two countries are drawn from the North zone, an equal number from the West A, three from West B, three from the Central, three from Central East, and two from South zone, which includes South Africa.
