The Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) is financially handicapped ahead of hosting the Africa Zone 5 Championship July 23-27.
The country is preparing to host the event which will attract Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.
Sadiq Nasiwu, the UVF President told local media on Monday that they have very few days to go and need about 40 million shillings to cater for accommodation, meals and transport for the teams.
Nasiwu says they have already got some help in kind like the playing Stadium which has been given to them by the National Council of Sports (NCS) and a water company which will supply water to teams, but they are still looking for money.
The UVP head says they have not hosted a Zonal event in years and this is a good opportunity for Uganda to showcase her skills and capacity.
He explained that while they are looking for money for the event, they are also looking for finances to transport the women’s team for the direct World Cup qualifier to take place in Nairobi, Kenya around the same time. Ugandan women will be up against the likes of Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia and Egypt battling for the two slots for the World Cup.
