Buganda are the new champions of the FUFA-MTN inter region competition after they outsmarted last year’s winners Eastern in a penalty shootout on Saturday evening in Hoima.

Coach Edward Goloola’s boys showed lots of good organization, team work and neat finishing which saw them stay unbeaten in the whole tournament.

After a 1-all draw in 90 minutes, Buganda won 4-2 in penalty shoot outs. Asumani Mukasa scored in the 26th minute for Buganda, but Joseph Owino picked the equalizer in the second half before the two teams defended in numbers.

Buganda’s goalkeeper Timothy Kyeyise was in good form when he stopped Matthew Odong and Alfred Onek’s penalty kicks to deny Eastern retaining the trophy.

Edward Kavuma, Ali Ayatouli Sempija, Faizal Kavuma and Farouk Banga all netted for Buganda.

Head Coach Goloola said he was happy the trophy had returned to Buganda since 2009 when they first won it. “The team played well and showed form Day 1 that they traveled to Hoima to lift the trophy,” added Goloola.

Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic who graced the final thanked the two teams for the good display and added that he had already spotted some talent.

West Nile beat North 4-0 to finish third.
