Uganda Cranes stars Martin Mutumba and Tony Mawejje have arrived in Egypt ahead tomorrow’s game against the hosts in an International friendly at the El Gouna Stadium.
Mutumba, the AIK midfielder who featured against Manchester United a few days ago in a pre-season friendly and Iceland-based Mawejje joined the team last night.
Skipper Andy Mwesigwa also arrived in Cairo and is awaiting clearance with the authorities over the visa before connecting to the tourist centre of El Gouna.
Cranes team manager Crispus Muyinda told local media at the Sheraton Miramar Resort Hotel, El Gouna this morning that Mwesigwa arrived on Monday night and will connect to El Gouna later today.
The central defender, who features for FC Ordabasy in Kazakhstan, is expected to play alongside St. George’s Isaac Isinde in central defense.
Striker Emmanuel Okwi, who netted one of the goals in the 2-1 victory over Angola in a 2014 World Cup qualifier, is expected to play alongside Geoffrey Massa. Egypt beat Uganda 2-1 in Khartoum, Sudan last year when the two teams played in an International friendly.
The Cranes are using the match to prepare ahead of their vital 2014 World Cup qualifier against Senegal on September 7 in Marrakech, Morocco. The Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup champions need an outright win against Senegal to make it to the final phase of the World Cup qualifiers.
